Gede is celebrated throughout October and November all over Haiti. This is a time for honoring ancestors through traditional ceremonies, many of which take place in cemeteries. Like all Vodou deities, Gede is associated with particular traditional rhythms, dances, foods, colors, and songs.
The historical Hotel Oloffson and the band RAM have thrown a lavish Gede celebration for over 20 years. With the intention of strengthening ties between Haiti and New Orleans, the Gedefest team presented an initiative birthed by the emblematic Oloffson Hotel, RAM, Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the celebrated Chef Donald Link from New Orleans.
Gedefest took place in Port-au-Prince from October 25th to November 1st and traveled to Jacmel from November 2nd to the 3rd, 2018. With educational panel discussions, culinary, dance and music master classes, musical exchanges and phenomenal concerts, Haitianola was happy to partner in this epic event, as it aligned beautifully with our organization’s mission.Below are a list of events Haitianola partnered to produce at Gede Fest.
